Stone Put (Clachneart)
This is the ancient ancestor of the modern Olympic shot put, using a natural field stone rather than a steel ball.
-
Braemar Stone: A heavy stone (20–28 lbs) thrown from a standing position with no run-up allowed.
-
Open Stone: A lighter stone (16–22 lbs) where the athlete is allowed to use a “glide” or “spin” technique within a designated throwing area.
